AI for teaching and training
Use AI to plan lessons, adapt material for different learners, make practice questions and give feedback, with your judgment in charge.
For: Teachers, lecturers, trainers, coaches and anyone who designs learning or explains things to others.
Lesson 1
Plan lessons faster
Get a solid draft plan you then make your own.
- Tell an AI assistant your workplace allows (for example ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Microsoft Copilot) the topic, the learners' level, the time and the goal.
- Ask for a lesson outline with activities and a check for understanding.
- Adjust it for your learners and your curriculum.
Try this at work: Ask for a lesson plan for a topic you teach next week, then change at least three things to fit your learners.
How to check it: The plan meets your curriculum goal and suits your learners' level.
Watch out: AI does not know your learners. Your knowledge of them comes first.
Lesson 2
Adapt material for every learner
Make one text work for different levels and needs.
- Paste a text and ask for simpler and more advanced versions.
- Ask for a glossary and questions for each level.
- Check that facts stay the same in every version.
Try this at work: Adapt one reading or handout into two levels and check that the facts are identical.
How to check it: Each version is accurate and right for its level.
Watch out: Simplifying can introduce errors. Read each version fully.
Lesson 3
Make practice questions and check them
Create good practice material quickly.
- Ask for questions with answers and explanations at a stated difficulty.
- Answer every question yourself before using it.
- Remove questions with more than one right answer.
Try this at work: Generate ten practice questions for a topic, answer them yourself, and fix or remove any that are wrong or unclear.
How to check it: Every question has exactly one correct answer and the explanation is right.
Watch out: AI answer keys are sometimes wrong. Never use questions you have not checked.
Lesson 4
Give feedback and protect learners
Save time on feedback while staying fair and safe.
- Use AI to suggest feedback against your marking criteria, then edit it.
- Never paste learners' names or personal details into unapproved tools.
- Keep grading decisions yours.
Try this at work: Write your marking criteria and use AI to draft feedback on one anonymised piece of work, then edit it into your own words.
How to check it: The feedback is specific, matches your criteria and sounds like you.
Watch out: Follow your school's or organisation's policy on AI and learner data.
